It's the Weekend!

Newsflash!: Today is Friday...That means it is the weekend. Well this weekend is going to be more hectic that my week has been I'm afraid. Tonight, 4 of my students are competing at the SC State Fair. The speed events are tonight. The four classes are: barrels, poles, open arena race, and texas barrels. We have been working crazy hard during lessons the last few weeks, and hopefully all our hard work will pay off! Then tomorrow there is an open barrel race I am going to. I am only taking one horse for me to run and then another horse for a student to run and then some of my other students are coming also. I am also considering letting Jacob do his first pee-wee class since he will be 2 next Sunday. Wow, time flys! Then Sunday, we have family in from Oklahoma so I hope to spend time with them, clean house, and hopefully start designing my office. I really need some space that I can get stuff done in. I currently try to work while sitting on the couch in front of the tv and keeping Jacob off the computer, it doesn't work very well. I have been browsing Pinterest and found several cute idea for offices in small spaces. Well these are my weekend plans, what are yours? Hopefully I will be posting lots of pictures next week!

Trails

In South Carolina, the majority of people that ride horses are here are recreational riders. That means that trail riding is very popular. Last weekend, there was a big ride. Trail riding is not my cup of tea, but I do trail ride at home just to help my horses relax. At the trail ride last weekend, there was a silent auction that benefitted the Wounded Warrior Project and St. Judes Children Hospital. I was asked to donate something. When I was pregnant, I started making custom tack to help pass the time since I spent part of my pregnancy on bed rest. I still occasionally make pieces but not nearly as often as I used to. When I was asked to make a donation I thought, hmmm I could make another piece of tack. I decided to do a one-eared headstall. Here is what it turned out like.

After I made this piece, I remember how much I enjoyed making tack. I am now starting back designing tack in my spare time. As I design more pieces I will probably open an Etsy store. I also take custom orders so you if have an idea feel free to email me to see what we can come up with.

Planning

Well this morning I was sitting down writing my daily to do list and my husband said to me, "You know if you would be doing the stuff you are writing it down instead of writing it down you would get alot more done." Well that just set me off. I have made to do lists everyday for as long as I can remember. I feel lost without my to do list. If I do not have paper with my, then I make my to do list on my phone. Before I had Jacob I would put times beside everything and I would flip out if I got of schedule. That was the only way I could be productive. Now that I am a mother, I cannot schedule every minute of my day but I do take the time to write out all of the things I would like to get accomplished that day. I know I will not get to all of it but I write it down anyway so I can remember to write it on tomorrows list. My question to you, Do you use a to do list? Does it help you get more accomplished or do you just know what you need to get done and go do it?
 Till next time!

Guest Post

I have been so busy lately that I have not had time to post like I have been wanting. Maybe things will slow down one day. I wanted to let you all know that I did find the time to do a guest post for my friend, Ashley aka The North Carolina Cowgirl. She has an awesome blog, you should check it out. My recent post was about cross training your barrel horse. If you are interested you should read it at http://www.thenorthcarolinacowgirl.com/2012/cross-training-your-barrel-racing-mount. While you are there take a look around and subscribe to Ashley's blog, you won't regret it!
Until next time,

I Tried

As most of you know, I ride horses for a living. When you live that kind of lifestyle, being a girly girl is not something that is generally associated with you. When I was in college I was a sorority girl, I could dress up with the best of them. I do not dress up as often I as used to but I still have my girly girl side. The main thing I do to make myself feel girly is do my nails. I feel like keeping nice nails is professional. Yes, I ride horses but I also go to the feed store and meet customers. I still need to look professional and when I have my nails painted I feel more feminine and confident. I have been trying to break out of my recent fashion rut so I decided to start super simple. NAIL POLISH. I have been reading this A-M-A-Z-I-N-G western fashion site called Western Glamour. Danielle did a recent post about glitter nail polish and I thought to myself now that could be fun. So I tried. I either got the wrong kind of polish, I am not capable of painting my own nails with glitter polish, or this stuff just doesn't work for me. My nails look like something a kindergarten child would wear. I felt completely tacky, un-put-together, and unprofessional. Needless to say I let it stay on for a day to see if it would grown on me...It didn't and it came off that evening. So now I am back to square one with this trying new fashion stuff. Maybe I will try something new with my hair next or maybe get some new makeup and learn how to put it on.LOL..That is a different post for a different day. What do you do to make yourself feel professinal and feminine?
Seriously, I had like 3 specks of glitter on one finger and then no glitter on another.  How tacky!

Feed

Most of you know I work part time at a feed mill and store. I love the hours I spend here. I get to meet amazing people that have similiar interests as me and all the while I learn all kinds of tidbits of information that help me make the best decisions about horse nutrition and what I decide to feed. I used to be an oats kinda girl but now I have gone to a pellets with oats and molasses (I will post more about this later). But today I wanted to share a picture of the truckload of oats we got in. They are beautiful...makes me consider going back to all oats and if I didn't have an ulcer guy I probably would but ulcers and oats do NOT mix and what I am using now is working great.

Have a great day!
