Recalls

As some of you know I work part time at a feed and farm supply store. Yesterday, I got a call from one of our distributors wanting to know the lot numbers on our 16oz bovine eye wash from vetericyn. He told me that there was a recall and he needed to check the product we had in the store. Since, I am not the cattle expert at the store, I gave him the lot number and did not ask any questions. I cannot give any more details as I do not have them but I figured I would give a small "heads up" to those of you who may have cattle and use the product. Hope this helps someone!

Future Blogs

My goodness...This is the craziest time of year ever!!! I still have to take Jacob to see Santa, finish buying all my Christmas gifts, and then get them all wrapped. Not to mention, I am working and trying to get horses ready for upcoming shows and futurities. I have so many great things to write about just wish I had more time to sit down and do it. I have been crafting some and I want to share some pictures of that, I want to post about my hometown, Jacob, animal feeds, and some other livestock products. I will get to it ASAP.

4H

Most of you that know anything about me know that I am involved in with our local 4H club. 4H was a part of my life when I was younger and I feel that I am a better person because of it. Because of that I feel like I should give back to a program that gave so much to me. I volunteer with a horse club in Lexington. I am not the leader although I probably should be I just do not feel like I have the time to devote to the program in order to give the children what they really need so an amazing lady named Julie Harmon is the leader and she is doing a SUPERB job! This is only her first year and the club's first year and so far things are going great! Last week we had our Christmas party. We had a weenie roast and spent some time on the horse since during our regular meetings we spend time drilling facts into their heads and not riding all the time. We did some bareback work and then we played games. We had a rescue the snowman race and then a wheelbarrow race-which I have never done before. I must say we had a blast! Here are just a few pictures from the festivities!

Happy Holidays!

Christmas

Well it is December 14-only 11 days till Christmas. I have barely started Christmas shopping and Jacob has not seen Santa yet this year-I plan on doing that this weekend. Yes, I am aware I am slack. If it was not for my mother, I would not have a tree up yet either. It is such a pain to have a tree up. Jacob wants to touch it and take the ornaments off and run down the hall-it is hilarious to watch, but a pain to deal with. Since he is napping right now, I decided to take a quick picture of the tree to share before he gets into it again tomorrow. Hope you are more prepared and ready for Christmas than I am!

New Website

Just wanted to let everyone know that I will continue to be here until the end of the month but starting in 2012 there are huge changes on the way. I am going to transfer my blog and website to another host and do everything together so I am not so spread out. I am starting to work on things now and wow I am so excited. Can't wait until January 1 to unveil the new blog and site.

Happy Birthday

This Friday was my mom's mother's 79th birthday. G (as I call her)/ G-G (what Jacob calls her) is the reason my life is the way it is. She is the person responsible for buying my first horse and horse trailer for me. Without her love and support, I never would have the life that I have now. My parents would have NEVER EVER bought me a horse. I owe this woman so much. She is one of my heros. She is 79 still lives by herself, drives everywhere, is a member of her church, a cancer survivor, and an avid crafter. She is so independent-I hope I can still be going as well as she is when I am that age. Jacob has so many hand-made sweaters and caps. She also makes me hats and scarves each year so I can be outdoors giving lessons and working horses and still look cute :)!
G-G with Jacob when he was 4 days old!

One of Jacob's super cute sweaters G-G made for him!
One of the many hats G has made for me!

December 5

Hope everyone had a great Monday! Wow my day was busy. It did not go quite like I planned. It was supposed to rain Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week so I had riding lessons scheduled today. Low and behold-it started pouring about 9:00 this morning. So I cancelled my lessons I decided to stay at work all day. I stayed busy!!! I got contracts done, employee calendars done, invoices separated, a deposit made, tags put in the system, and made pricing changes-I will talk more about my job another day but that is enough for now. Then when I left work I came home a did horsey chores (always my favorite). That was just a bit about my day but my post today is actually about my family.
I have been married to a super awesome man for almost two years. Chet is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I have always been an uptight no fun stick in the mud and Chet is the EXACT opposite. He is fun loving and carefree. If you are around Chet 98% of the time you have a huge smile on your face.
Jacob is our 13 month old son. He is my world. I was always the one that was not sure about kids but now that I have one I could not imagine my life without him. I hope one day he will be my little cowboy but that is a long way off. Here are a few pictures of my wonderful family.

Day 2/4

LOL. Well it is only the fourth day of the month and I have already missed two days of posting. Wow I'm not doing very well. In my defense-the two days I missed were weekend days and I was so busy! We went out of town and spent the weekend with my husband's family. I had a great time seeing everyone! Everything will be back to normal tomorrow and you can expect a post everyday this week! Hope you had a great weekend!

Day 1!

Starting next year I am really going to stay on top of my website and blog. This year I have been completely slack. In order to get myself prepared to keep stuff updated and keep things interesting I will be doing a post a day for the month of December. So be prepared-by the end of the month you will know me, my family, and of course my horses (who knows what all I will post about). But tonight I am sitting here watching the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo and rooting for a few folks I know so I don't have time to write a really good post. Tomorrow I will start by really introducing myself.  Hope everyone has a great night!

It's A Contest!!!

Hi guys! Sorry it has been forever since I last posted.  Since my last post, several things have happened-I started back at my old job and picked up more riding lessons and I got a new horse.  A friend of my has had some health issues and needed to get rid of two horses, a mare and her 3 year old colt.  He could no longer care for them, and yes, I am very aware that this colt needs some weight so please do not tell me that.  Since I have had him he has started gaining weight, but you need to do it slowly and safely and not just throw feed to them.  I assure you-this horse is being well cared for now.  I knew I did not want the mare so I sold her before I ever brought her home.  As for the 3 year old gelding, I hope to make him my futurity colt for next year.  I know this will not be easy since he could barely be lead around when I picked him up last Wednesday.  We have been working most days and he is improving greatly, but now, he needs a name.  I am going to be holding a contest to name this horse.  He also needs a registered name so registered names as well as barn names will be accepted.  Just post your name and name suggestion at the bottom of this page.  I will be taking names until Tuesday morning at 12:01AM and then I will allow everyone to vote on the suggestion until Friday at noon.  Then Friday evening I will post the results and the winner will get a horse lover's prize package.  Here are a few pictures to help you get a feel for him.  I know a few of them are very dark, but maybe they will help some.  Thanks for your help in advance!  Also, you can enter as many times as you like!

Wow...So Far Behind!

This summer has been insanely busy...I have been a terrible blogger.  Now that school is about to start back, I should be able to blog regularly again.  I will try to fill everyone in on what I have been up to this summer.  First, we took a family trip to Oklahoma.  My husband is from there and most of his family had not gotten the chance to meet Jacob. Here are a few pictures from our trip.

I have also had two summer camps.  Our first camp was a week long camp.  The second was a 3 day camp.  Each time we had riders at every level.  We learned equine anatomy, saddle parts, some groundwork, and basic horsemanship.  Each day we rode and swam.  Everyone learned lots.

I have also been asked to help with the local 4H group.  It is a startup group with children aged 8-19.  A few of the children are my students, but for the most part they are complete beginners.  I am looking forward to watching the children grow and become horsemen.

We also took a family trip to the beach.  Jacob had never been, it was a learning experience.  I think we will wait awhile before we head back to the beach.  Here are a few pictures.

Well school starts Wednesday so hopefully I will get back on a decent schedule.  Happy riding!

Checking the Place

Last night we had a big storm with lots of wind and rain.  Every day after a big storm I have to go and check the place to make sure no trees have fallen on the fences or there is nothing that a horse can get hurt on.  Today while I was out checking the farm I decided to take a few pictures and share them with everybody.
This is one of our back pastures.

We did have a tree down, but thankfully it was not close to anything.

Desi, a new horse that came for training last week coming to visit.

Overall everything was good, just had to close a gate.  Hope everyone is making it through the storms.  I will have a new post for ya tomorrow!

High School Rodeo

As most of you know I train horses and give riding lessons.  Over the last weekend of May, the South Carolina High School Rodeo Association, held their state finals.  My students did GREAT!  I was so proud of the girls I work with and the horses I have trained.  It was a weekend of triumph and tragedy.  On Friday afternoon a Junior High girl's horse fell on her and she ended up dying Saturday morning.  I did not know Lauren McKenzie Mathias so I do not feel I am a good person to comment on the tragedy, but I do know she will be missed greatly in the rodeo world. (For more information on this accident please go to http://www.cbhnews.com/)
But on a better note, there were great runs and lots of fun.  Here are a few pictures I took over the course of the weekend.  And I had to include the best pole run of the weekend made on a WWR trained horse.
The arena judge.

Two of my students.

Getting ready to rope.

The saddles that were given away to the Year End Winners!

This is the best pole run of the weekend.
Hope everyone is having a great week!

Welcome to South Carolina

I am from a tiny town in South Carolina.  I have lived in South Dakota and Ohio, but South Carolina is home.  South Carolina is a great place to call home.  Within a few hours I can be at the beach, or a two hour drive in the other direction, and I'm in the mountains.  The sites are a great part of what South Carolina has to offer.

On the other hand South Carolina also offers very little snow in the winter.  Yay!  This past winter we did get some snow, but it was gone in 4 days.  Around here we consider cold in the 50s.  On the other side of the spectrum, we have South Carolina summers.  They are HOT and HUMID!!!  Today is June 1 and I just took this picture on my back porch while I was outside watering flowers.

I'm not sure where you are, but I hope you are having great weather and if you are around here, stay cool.

So Far Behind

Hi guys!  I am so far behind right now.  I have so many things to catch up blogging about.  The heat, trimmings, checking fences, the South Carolina High School Rodeo State Finals, and life in general.  I really hope to get caught up this week so be expecting a blog a day all week.  Hope everyone is having a great week and is not nearly as far behind as I am.

Spring is in the Air

I know this an equine related blog, but I also want to tell about my life too.  Yes, I spend lots of time riding and working horses, but I am also a bit of a girly girl.  I LOVE flowers.  I decided to walk around this morning and take pictures around my house a barn.  Here are a few of my flowers.

I know I am way behind on my blogging.  I hope to catch up this week.  I have lots to add and plenty of pictures and videos to show.

Today on the Farm-Trail Riding

Yes, I do ride and train barrel horses, but in order to keep them fresh as well as myself, I LOVE to get out of the arena and just trail ride.  It helps the horses relax and it helps me relax.  Trail riding is a very important part of our program.  There are so many horses out there that cannot go trail ride.  Trail riding helps expose my horses, especially the young ones, to things they probably will not see in the arena, but may see if we go out to a rodeo or horse show.  So today, I took everybody on a nice relaxing trail ride.  Tomorrow we will go back to work, but today was so fun and relaxing!
Happy Trails!
